Louisiana’s Ragin Cajuns open up the 2020 Football season on the road in Ames, Iowa to face the Iowa State Cyclones. Kickoff is set for 11 am CST on ESPN.
In the Top 25 preseason poll, Iowa State is ranked #23, but Coach Billy Napier and the Cajuns are up for the challenge. The Cyclones are favored in the season opener, but in a recent story from 247sports.com, Robbie Weinstein explained why Iowa State could be on an upset alert in Week 1.
In particular, Louisiana looks like a tough opponent for Iowa State. The Cyclones are a preseason Top 25 team that could contend for the Big 12 title, but Louisiana looks like one of the top Group of Five squads entering 2020. The hosts also won’t have a typical homefield advantage, as fans won’t be in the seats.
CBS Sports’ Chip Patterson said the Cyclones need to watch out.
“I’ve got the ‘Clones on upset alert,” Patterson said Wednesday on CBS Sports HQ. “I think that this Louisiana team is locked and loaded with their eyes set on potentially winning the Sun Belt championship. They made the championship game twice, both years under Billy Napier, falling to Appalachian State. They want to be a Top 25 team this year. It starts with getting a Top 25 win on the road in Ames.
